“We
think it has. As dance lovers we all should stay positive about it.
After all, it’s better than only hip-hop or rock on the radio, right?”
Has dance music become the new pop?:
“Little mice, so we can spy on what the results of this year's Top 100 poll will be!”
If you could be any animal, what would you be?:
“Should
DJs use a microphone? Should they dance? Should they use a laptop? In
the end it’s up to the DJ to decide what’s right, and the audience
decides by showing up to the gigs.”
Should DJs do "heart hands":
“We
definitely think we have a responsibility to show EDM and drugs do not
necessarily belong together. On the other hand, people are responsible
for their own life and choices.”
Do DJs have a duty to speak out about drugs?:
“We’d really like our existing rider served up by Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian.”
Following
extensive international tours on the back of the swathe of hits that
came from their late 2011 'Wake Your Mind' album, German trance veterans
Cosmic Gate returned this year with new singles 'Storm Chaser',
'Crushed' and 'So Get Up' written and vocalized by California artist, Ithaka (Ithaka Darin Pappas). Nic Chagall and Bossi told DJ Mag it’s a
matter of balancing their signature trance sound with the desire to move
forward.
“It’s different styles all over again, but always with our signature that people can recognize. We don’t want to be predictable, we’d get bored doing the same things in a studio over and over.”
'So Get Up' was the first single on their new Wake Your Mind label, and it caps off what’s otherwise been a massive year of touring that’s seen them hosting festival stages in Australia, joining A State of Trance in Ibiza as residents, as well as staging several “Wake Your Mind in Concert” events, featuring guest vocalists to compliment the Cosmic Gate experience.
While the pair are supportive of the trance scene’s recent push towards old-school sounds, they maintain it won’t have a massive impact on their next album, that they’re currently working on. “We’ve been there already, and it wouldn’t feel right for us to go back to where it all started. We prefer to develop our sound by combining different styles to create something new."

SO GET UP - Cosmic Gate (Lyric Genius)

The lyrics of this track - and indeed the vocal itself - are by the Californian poet and artist, Ithaka (Ithaka Darin Pappas). It was originally written and recorded in early 1993 for a program on Rádio Comercial in Portugal (where Ithaka briefly resided) and about a year later, he was invited to re-record it with the progressive house act, Underground Of Lisbon.
USL had much success with their version of the song, never giving vocal and lyrical credit to the creator (and claimed it as 100% 'Portuguese') even though only on one or two mixes, of over a thousand versions, is USL's music even present.
However, Ithaka's vocal & lyrics appear on 100% of the songs, but because USL released an unauthorized/un-credited acapella via Tribal/I.R.S. Records in New York (1994), this poem has anonymously permeated the dance music world and even become a kind of festival anthem.
Cosmic Gate's version brilliantly uses these profound words to an even greater impact - and larger audience. But once again, where is the vocal/lyric credit?

Collection
of vocal poems recorded in Europe in 1993, which had been completely
lost until being rediscovered in early 2017 (on a damaged cassette tape
in a Los Angeles garage). These are the companion works for the iconic,
So Get Up.

Californian-born writer and vocalist Ithaka (aka Ithaka Darin Pappas) relocated from his native Los Angeles in 1992 to Europe where the artist entered of six year period of hyper-creativity. There he wrote, vocalized, created sculptures and photographed among other activities.
In 1993 he wrote a collection of poems for a daily audio segment he hosted on a program called Quatro Bairro on Rádio Commercial, Lisbon. After reciting some these poems live on Rádio Comerical in 1993, he later recorded them as a collection of demos with a producer friend in the UK.
The next year he recorded one of these poems, So Get Up, with the progressive-house project Underground Sound Of Lisbon who achieved massive international success with the track via distribution by Tribal/I.R.S. Records in New York.
Between a series of moves and career developments, the original 1993 vocal poem demos recorded in England were lost. Neither studio technician or artist could find the original, or copies.
So Get Up went on to become an international EDM anthem remixed by greats such as; Miss Kittin, Fatboy Slim. Mert Yücel, Dave Seaman etc.
Later in 2013, the song saw yet another chapter of fame when top DJ's both Hardwell and Armina Van Buuren endorsed a new version of the So Get Up rleased by German trance music stars Cosmic Gate using Ithaka's original lyrical/ vocal acapella)
Ithaka himself went on to record a series of critically acclaimed hip hop albums.
Here together on this disc are two new vocal recordings of Ithaka's iconic poems "So Get Up" and "We Are The Players" (recorded in Mexico - 2017) along with the complete collection of vocal-poem acapella demos made in 1993, some with their original proposed instrumental sketches. Please note: These are not intended to be finished songs, but instead are included to demonstrate Ithaka's early musical direction prior to both Underground Sound Of Lisbon's version of So Get Up (1994) and his own solo album, Flowers And The Color Of Paint (1995).
In the future, the artist hopes to collaborate with some of the EDM producers that have previously mixed his vocal-literary works, perhaps without even knowing who had recorded them.
