The pair’s ‘So Get Up’, a 1994 remix of Ithaka's 1992 iconic vocal-poem song (also entitled "So Get Up").

defined by its bottom-end and oft-sampled series of Ithaka's shouted commands “Get up! Forget the past!” was one of the best. The track became an international club smash that hit particularly hard in NYC, where it became something of an unofficial mid-’90s theme song for Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia.

Two acapella versions of "So Get Up" (a song that changed the entire electronic-music economy of Portugal during the 1990's) were released by USL in the United States by Tribal America, a subsidiary of E.M.I. without ANY authorization from the lyricist/vocalist. Ithaka, an award-winning hip hop vocalist and songwriter, was not paid royalties or even given a featuring credit on his own raw vocal. In 1995, the USL version charted at #83 on the UK pop charts. In 1997, Stretch N Vern's "Get Up! Go Insane!", using the same vocal recording, charted at #17 (UK). Meat Katie also had success in the late 1990's with "Next Life" using the same acapella. In 2013, Cosmic Gate reworked "So Get Up" into a trance version stadium banger, becoming one of the duo's most recognizable songs, (again, using the existing acapella with No vocal credit given)... even manufacturing T-Shirts utilizing Ithaka's lyrics, with no mention of the author. The release of the uncredited 1994 acapella versions had created a snowball effect of illegal "So Get Up" remix versions that continues until the present. Today (in 2020), with more than one-thousand released remixes, it is The Most Remixed Vocal Acapella In Musical History, yet vocally/lyrically, it largely remains anonymous. When credit has been given on the subsequent mixes of "So Get Up", which is rare, it is normally given to Underground Sound Of Lisbon whose version was the first to bring Ithaka's vocal-poem to public attention even if none of USL's music is actually present on the new mix or release. In September of 2019, world-renowned electronic music journalist and editor Lauren Martin interviewed DJ Vibe (António Pereira), the iconic Portuguese DJ, for the Red Bull Music Academy lecture series. During the course of the one-hour long conversation the two spoke five full minutes specifically about the song “So Get Up” which undoubtedly transformed DJ Vibe’s personal career and in fact the entire electronic music economy of Portugal in the 1990’s.

When asked about the recording and the distribution of the song “So Get Up” and how it ‘changed everything’, Vibe spoke at length about now-deceased Kaos Records label owner/promotor António Cunha, co-member of Underground Sound of Lisbon, Rui da Silva and Rob Di Stefano manager of Tribal U.S.A. records which distributed the initial international release of “So Get Up” selling 80,000 copies).

He also speaks of DJ Junior Vasquez who had the recorded exclusively for a full year at the NY’s Sound Factory and created a buzz around the recording, but Dj Vibe fails to even mention the lyricist/vocalist, Greek-Californian Ithaka (Ithaka Darin Pappas), whose rerecording of his 1992 English-language vocal poem, So Get Up, The End Of The Earth Is Upon Us for Underground Sound Of Lisbon, certainly aided in the globalization of Underground Sound of Lisbon, Kaos Records, DJ Vibe, Rui da Silva and Portuguese electronic music in general.

In 2013, German trance super stars Cosmic Gate, licensed Ithaka’s entire So Get Up vocal for their track coincidentally entitled “So Get Up” (again without a featured lyric/vocal credit to Ithaka). The vocal-poem song “So Get Up” is by Ithaka (Ithaka Darin Pappas).

According to Wikipedia:

Ithaka Darin Pappas (a Californian hip hop artist, poet, photographer and sculptor of Greek ancestry) originally wrote and recorded “So Get Up” on December 13th 1992 for a segment of a radio program called Quatro Bairro, that he regularly appeared on as a guest host. The former Underground Sound of Lisbon producer (with Rui Da Silva) - who had a huge club hit with 'So Get Up' (featuring original vocals and lyrics by renowned California songwriter, Ithaka Darin Pappas) in the mid-'90s - is currently excited about Logic 8 and Serato, with the digital music controller changing not just the way he buys music but also the way he programmes his sets. The Eternal "SO GET UP" Gains Yet Another Life - Cosmic Gate featuring Ithaka

Through ‘Wake Your Mind’s title, Nic & Bossi had communicated a belief in border-free electronic music to fans. Its message was embraced by untold thousands of clubbers and music lovers around the world, subsequently turning into a groundswell movement. The #WYM tag was widely adopted as the abbreviation-of-choice for those wishing to display a more flexible/less tribal outlook to electronic music.

Throughout late 2013 and early 2014, Cosmic Gate added other significant dimensions to Wake Your Mind, further spurring the #WYM effect. Following rave receptions to a string of sold out Wake Your Mind In Concert gigs they launched WYM Records. Attached to the Armada Label group, it was conceived as a home for freethinking, no-borders music, which was immediately underlined this by its first release. Winning widespread praise from the press, ‘So Get Up’ - featuring the 1993 original lyrics and vocals by Californian rapper-poet, Ithaka - was seen by both fans and the media alike as an (aptly) bold ‘new-avenues’ musical exploration by Cosmic Gate.

DJ VIBE - One Of The World's Eternal Best

António "Tó" Pereira, mais conhecido no mundo da eletrónica como DJ Vibe, é um artista que dispensa introduções em Portugal e também fora de portas. Vibe, natural de Lisboa, deu os seus primeiros passos dentro de uma cabine de DJ com apenas 15 anos e nunca mais parou desde essa altura.
O DJ já tocou lado a lado com grandes nomes da sua área, como,  por exemplo, Paul Oakenfold, Tony Humphries  Roger Sanchez e a sua eterna referência, Danny Tenaglia. O grande lançamento da sua carreira nacional e internacional ocorreu após a criação de uma parceria com outro famoso DJ/produtor português, Rui da Silva, que os elevou ao expoente máximo da música eletrónica de dança. Os Underground Sound of Lisbon, criados em 1993, influenciaram para sempre o verão de 1994 com o lançamento do seu êxito “So Get Up”, tema com vocais de Ithaka (Ithaka Darin Pappas) e lançado pela editora de Rob di Stefano, Tribal USA. Vivia-se, então, o auge do denominado house tribal e o tema atingiu o primeiro lugar da  Billboard Club Chart.
Agora, DJ Vibe vê novamente reconhecido o trabalho de mais de duas décadas atrás da cabine, tendo ficado na 74ª posição da lista dos DJs mais populares de todos os tempos, elaborada pelo site Dash Berlin World. Para chegar a estes resultados, a publicação monitorizou os Top 100 da DJ Mag entre os anos de 1997 e 2012, tendo em conta os géneros dominantes e as posições dos DJs.

Para além da carreira de DJ, Vibe é co-proprietário da editora Records, um estúdio de gravação e uma editora em Lisboa fundada em 1992 com António Cunha. O músico esteve ainda envolvido noutros projetos, como os LHT, NYLX, Sonic Hunters e Meco.

In 2013, twenty years after it was first written and recorded, trance legend Armin Van Buuren re-introduced Ithaka's iconic EDM vocal poem So Get Up (The End Of The Earth) to a new generation by playing a version by Cosmic Gate on his popular global A State Of Trance radio program and featuring it on his mix album A State Of Trance 2013 (Armada Records).

In March of 1993, a demo version of So Get Up was recorded in Manchester, United Kingdom with producer Simon Bradshaw. And later, in February of 1994, Ithaka was invited to rerecord the poem for the B-Side of the first vinyl release of Underground Sound Of Lisbon on Kaos Records, Portugal. It was an almost instant national hit and soon released (along with an acapella version) internationally by Tribal (USA), a subsidiary of Stuart Copeland's IRS Records in New York.

Interestingly, although the poem was written and vocalized by Ithaka a year before ever meeting Underground Sound Of Lisbon, no public vocal credit was included on those first releases.

The USL version and the new remixes by Junior Vazquez and Danny Tenaglia were quite popular themselves (selling at least 50,000 units) but because an acapella was included in these major distributions, literally hundreds of new mixes appeared in just a few years. Many producers simply changed the title (sometimes not) and put the entire vocal on their own instrumentals and called it their own.

The vocal acapella has also been released under the titles; "Get Up", "Get Up Go Insane", "So Get Up Atom Bride", "The End Of the Earth", "Next Life", "See You In The Next Life", "Intro", "Headcharge" and "Hardventure"

The vocal itself has never had a sonic style specifically associated with it, it has kept changing it's clothes and modernizing itself with the times.

The spoken-word acapella was originally read on-air on top of an instrumental version of a Naughty-By-Nature hip hop song, and this UK demo version is a mid-tempo electro-style track,. The vocal never had a sonic style specifically associated with it,

And since then have versions have appeared in almost every avenue of global electronic music such as; Trance, Dubstep, Drum & Bass, Big Beat, Trip Hop, Tech House, Electronic Art Rock etc.
